After 17 years, nine playoffs, and three finals, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are still waiting for their maiden Indian Premier League title. The upcoming 2025 season, which starts on March 22, will be another massive challenge for RCB, who have announced a new skipper in Rajat Patidar. Will the Madhya Pradesh batter and captain be able to change his team's fortunes? This remains to be seen. Unlike previous seasons where RCB were solely dependent on their front three batters, this time, the Challengers are a bit widespread in terms of depth. Similarly, RCB's pace department gets some much-needed variety. RCB addressed these two segments at the IPL 2025 mega auction held in November in Jeddah.

RCB are once again a side with plenty of new faces, so once again, it's a start from scratch. It remains to be seen how Patidar can get this side to perform consistently and deliver results.

RCB HAVE MADE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS CONSISTENTLY OF LATE

In four of the last five seasons, RCB have reached the last four in the IPL. Last season, they were beaten by Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator after finishing fourth in the 10-team table. In 2022, RCB finished fourth before winning the Eliminator and then being defeated by RR in Qualifier 2. In 2021, RCB finished third in the standings. However, they lost in the Eliminator. In 2020, RCB finished fourth in the standings before losing in the Eliminator. This is a decent feat for RCB, and they have shown some consistency. What's missing is the final kill. They might once again need several things to go their way if they are to make it to the last four. Looking at them this season, RCB are well-suited to achieve that. The title, however, could be one step away for now.
