November 2025

One of the world’s most deadly diseases has been successfully treated for the first time. Huntington’s disease is a sickness that attacks the brain, and affects people's movement, ability to think and their emotions.

Trailblazing treatment for deadly disease

It is caused by an error in part of a person's DNA (a chemical that tells your body how to grow and develop) called the huntingtin gene. This gene (a small section of DNA) turns healthy proteins in the brain into deadly ones that destroy brain cells. The disease is not something you can catch - it is passed down from family members.
