NASA's Parker Solar Probe made history on 24 December 2024 with the closest-ever approach to the Sun.

Travelling at a speed of 430,000 miles per hour-fast enough to get from London to Cardiff in one secondthe probe dipped into the Sun's outer atmosphere around 3.8 million miles from the solar surface.
