Gold steady as weaker dollar offsets fading rate cut hopes

GOLD prices were steady on Monday after paring a near 1 percent fall earlier in the session, as a softer dollar helped offset waning hopes of near term US interest rate cuts due to elevated energy prices.

Spot gold edged up 0.1 percent to $5,020.79 per ounce, as of 0427 GMT. US gold futures for April delivery fell 0.7 percent to $5,024.90.
The dollar nudged lower, making greenback-priced commodities such as bullion cheaper for holders of other currencies.
The US 10 year Treasury yields eased, increasing the appeal of nonyielding bullion.
