MARK JONES MBE STEPS DOWN AFTER 20 YEARS CHAMPIONING THE EMPOWERING POWER OF FURTHER EDUCATION
-
As Mark Jones MBE stepped down after two decades at the helm of two dynamic Further Education (FE) colleges in South Wales, he reflected on a career defined by growth, collaboration, and a steadfast belief in the transformational power of further education.
This month marked the end of a 20-year journey for Mark, who most recently served as Chief Executive/Principal at Gower College Swansea.
As he stepped back from the role, he did so with what he described as “deep gratitude and an enduring belief in the power and potential of further education colleges.”
He said: “What strikes me most is how far the college sector has come and the impact that it has every day.”
FE TODAY: THE MOST DIVERSE SPACE IN EDUCATION
According to Mark, today's FE colleges are among the most diverse and inclusive educational spaces in the country.
At Gower College Swansea, learners include 16-18-year-olds pursuing A Levels or vocational qualifications; school pupils enhancing their studies; adults upskilling or retraining; and higher education students progressing locally.
The college also works with employers across a wide range of sectors to deliver high-quality apprenticeship programmes that support workforce development and meet both local and national skills demands.
