'Incredible' Davina McCall was our first celebrity fan

TV PRESENTER Davina McCall's cheery Big Brother catchphrase “I'm coming to get you” might not be the first thing you expect to hear in one of 2025's best love songs, but with previous references to cult rom-com Buffalo 66, supermarkets and Mean Girls, Wet Leg are not your average indie band.

The band’s third single from their latest album Moisturizer is named after the 57-year-old presenter of The Masked Singer, with frontwoman Rhian Teasdale telling the PA news agency that McCall was one of their first celebrity fans.
The 32-year-old explains: “She was probably one of the first, like, quote, unquote, celebs to ever tag us in their story (on Instagram).
“I think we played a gig at the Electric Ballroom quite early on, and I remember it was a lot easier to monitor the social media back in those days because it was a bit of a smaller following.
“And so I was going through the stories from the night, and then I saw that Davina McCall had posted a photo, like a selfie of her in the crowd wearing a Wet Leg T-shirt, and I immediately was like, ‘guys, guys, Davina McCall was in the audience!’
“That was a big moment for us, and you know she is an incredible woman that has such a mad story, I think she’s very cool.”
But despite her love for the TV presenter, Teasdale, whose band rose to fame with viral single Chaise Longue, said she is not completely sure where the idea to name a song after McCall came from.
She adds: “Certain stuff is just like bobbing around in my head, like the DVD screensaver, and like, ‘this is Davina, I’m coming to get you,’ as we were in writing, that was just something that was just bobbing around my head.
“And I don’t know, it’s funny to explain it, just stuff just ends up where it ends up.
“When you're doing anything creative, whether it’s writing music or any kind of form of art, you're just always picking up stuff, you're always picking up inspiration without even really realising it.
