LinkedIn traces workplace transformation in terms of new job roles, AI adoption & sustainability
The Statesman
|November 06, 2024
New data from LinkedIn's inaugural Work Change Snapshot reveals a significant workplace transformation, with 10 percent of workers hired globally in 2024 holding job titles that didn't exist in 2000. This shift is driven by factors such as the rise of new technologies, a greater focus on sustainability, and evolving pandemic-era policies.
The percentage may still be low, but it's increasingly growing, for sure. Job roles which had not even existed in 2000 are increasingly coming into play, reflecting significant transformation in the workplace. These are roles like Sustainability Manager, AI engineer, Data Scientist, Social Media Manager, and Customer Success Manager, to mention a few. Workplace transformation is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, with new data from LinkedIn's inaugural Work Change Snapshot showing that 10 per cent of workers hired globally in 2024 hold job titles that had not existed in 2000.
The recent LinkedIn suggests that as high as 82 per cent of business leaders in India agree that the pace of change at work is speeding up. Whether it's companies rethinking pandemic-era policies around remote work, the emergence of new technologies, or the increased focus on sustainability, a LinkedIn study reveals just how different modern workplaces look compared to just a few years ago. That's not all. The speed of transformation is only set to increase, going forward.

Sorry state of education
The National Education Policy 2020 rightly aims to introduce vocational education at all levels, by integrating vocational education into mainstream education. However, implementation of NEP 2020 seems to be running far behind schedule; NEP had envisaged that by 2025, at least half of the students would have vocational exposure, through school and higher education. The problem in implementation of NEP appears to be of finance and resolve; the NEP document requires that 6 per cent of GDP be spent on education, while we are spending less than half that
