Start of a new trend? Foreign-based filmmakers choose Durgapur as setting for their movie

As a pioneering venture, movie makers from Germany, Singapore, Canada, and Australia jointly with their Kolkata counterparts took the initiative to make a full-length Tollywood movie entirely shot in and around the industrial city of Durgapur — incidentally, the premiere of the film in the commercial circuits was on last Friday.

Durgapur Junction —the action-packed thriller movie was conceived in the USA, and was finally shot in Durgapur being thematically centred on conflicts between groups vesting and safe-guarding their respective interests, trade in counterfeit medicines, unnatural deaths.

In the film, as protagonists, thespian Swastika Mukherjee appears as an intrepid journalist, and Vikram Chatterjee acted as a young police officer who together with Swastika Mukherjee was engaged in a probe to go to the bottom of the mystery behind a series of unnatural deaths.

Four co-producers of the film — Anshuman Dwivedi from Berlin, with Ambuj Chaturvedi from Sydney, and Shampa Chowdhury from Calgary with Masmoom Barzorak from Singapore joined hands with Kolkata couple Arup Sarkar and Sayannita Sarkar to garner funds of Rs 1.75 crore as the budget of the movie. They are all young and enthusiastic cinema lovers.
