Beavers set to help restore habitat in $178k project
TWO beavers are being introduced to help restore a fragile habitat in North Staffordshire.
The 'master munchers' will be released in Craddocks Moss, a degraded peat bog near Newcastle-under-Lyme, to stop it being lost to woodland.
In recent years saplings and brambles have slowly crept over the 47-acre site, which is the size of 26 football pitches.
This has dried out the peat and released carbon into the atmosphere.
The project has been funded by donations from residents and businesses following an appeal by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. A further £133,800 grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund.
