DROUGHT-TOLERANT VARIETIES THAT WON'T WILT AT THE FIRST SIGN OF A SIZZLING SPELL
JUNE has arrived and, meteorologically speaking, it’s the beginning of summer. Let's hope it’s also the start of a good long spell of sunshine so we can get out and enjoy gardening and being in our gardens.
If you grow plants in containers or hanging baskets or you're a fruit and veg grower, a constant supply of water is essential. With hosepipe bans more frequent and our climate warming up, gardeners need to find ways to adapt and this includes the type of plants we grow. There are plenty of plants less demanding of water that will not wilt at the first sign of a dry spell.
Plants that hail from hotter countries are better adapted to periods without water. Many of our favourite plants are from the Mediterranean and dislike soggy soil.
