MVP Turns Spotlight on Real Pinoy MVPs

The most valuable players are athletes who lead their teams to victory, but for tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, the title also belongs to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who carry the weight of their families and the nation on their shoulders.

Pangilinan was honored with the Gintong Alon Leadership Award during the recent Philippine Association of Hong Kong charity ball, recognizing his impactful support to OFWs worldwide.

But the PLDT Group chairman could not help but shine the spotlight on Filipino workers in Hong Kong for their invaluable service and sacrifices they make for their families back home.

"I am indeed moved by a recognition such as this, coming from a place where I lived for 22 continuous years, and from people I deeply care for," Pangilinan said during his acceptance speech.

"There may be some doubt in my heart as to whether I deserve this award over other Filipinos who have served and continue to serve here in Hong Kong, but there is no question about my pleasure and pride in receiving it," he said.
