Union 'not recognised' by airport in strike threat

June 25, 2025

NEWCASTLE International Airport is in a dispute with an “unrecognised” union which is threatening potential industrial action.

In a statement, the airport has stressed its close relationships with its existing unions Unite and Unison, as the Prospect union made a ballot announcement.

It is asking if members, who work in the air traffic control department, are prepared to take action short of a strike.

Prospect claims that in 2023 it proposed a joint recognition agreement with Unite and Unison, but this was subsequently rejected by the airport.
