A DAMAGED Metro platform will remain closed until at least tomorrow.

Platform Two at Jesmond Metro Station was closed on Monday night after a train’s sliding step scraped the edge of the platform.

The train had been withdrawn at Pelaw due to a fault, and scraped the platform at Jesmond when it was being returned to the South Gosforth depot. The incident prompted a service suspension of over two hours between Haymarket and South Gosforth.

No one was on the train at the time, nor was anyone injured in the incident. Nexus has confirmed this morning that the platform will be closed until Friday, when an inspection into the repairs needed is set to take place.
