School on the up after making improvements

A MIDDLESBROUGH school has made “significant improvements” after being rated inadequate by Ofsted inspectors, a monitoring visit report has said.

Outwood Academy Ormesby was received the lowest rating after an inspection by the education watch-dog in 2022. Now, a monitoring inspection, where the primary focus is to review the school’s ongoing actions to improve pupils’ behaviour and attendance.

In the three-page report, published online, the school is praised for significant improvements made around behaviour. The school is described as being “calm and orderly and low-level disruption is not tolerated”.

When this does occur, staff deal with it effectively and there is also a reduction in the use of derogatory language used among students. Internal truancy is now a rare occurrence, the report noted.
