Power pole hit by storm falls and kills horse

A FAMILY have spoken of their horror after their young horse was killed after a electrical pole fell during a storm.

Jo Burke and Alistair Wright's three-year-old horse, Fly, died after she was electrocuted when a Northern Powergrid pole came down.

The couple, from North Yorkshire, say the company has “let them down’ with their response.

Now, months on from Fly's death, they say they fear a repeat of the tragedy after being told 12 more poles on their land need to be replaced due to their condition.

Jo had been out shopping with her daughter when they returned home to their farm in Swainby, North Yorkshire, and instantly realised something was wrong as vehicles encircled their property.

Jo's partner Alistair told them that Northern Powergrid were at the scene and they quickly discovered thoroughbred filly Fly had died when a pole toppled during fierce winds, reports The Gazette’s sister website Yorkshire Live.
