Government to rule on organic waste plant

800 OBJECTIONS TO PROPOSED FACILITY
RESIDENTS and businesses have urged a planning inspector to refuse plans for an organic waste processing plant.
A proposal to open an industrial-sized anaerobic digestion plant at Sprucely Farm near Sedgefield will be decided by the Government after an inquiry hearing in Durham.
Officials representing the Government Planning Inspectorate, the applicant and residents discussed the proposal at County Hall in Durham on Wednesday.
BioConstruct New Energy initially won planning approval for the facility, which will process food waste and farmyard manure, but the proposal is being reconsidered after complaints about a lack of local consultation.
The Teesside company said it will generate methane from 76,000 tonnes of material annually, providing energy to 18,000 homes.
