Shifting Priorities: How New UK and US Policies Are Influencing Indian Students' Study Abroad Choices
The Daily Guardian
|June 04, 2025
Equally, Indian students are actively seeking alternate study locations. The Australia and Canadian markets are gaining popularity with their post-study work opportunities and residency pathways. Canada is also popular for its more accessible immigration policies, especially regarding family reunification, and welcoming culture.
Policy changes being implemented in the United Kingdom and the United States are now motivating Indian students to reevaluate their study abroad preferences. Historically, these two countries have always been among the foremost selections for pursuing higher education; however, changing visa policies and immigration regulations are modifying perceptions.
Evolving Policy Framework in the UK and US
In the UK, the dependents themselves have not shown interest in pursuing postgraduate taught programs, which comes with its own set of challenges. Apart from that form of dependency, the scope of the Graduate Route visa and post-study work rights is accompanied by ambiguity. Although immediate policy shifts are not on the horizon, the overall atmosphere is rather fluid, which is enough to push students to plan for the future.
