DISCOVERING THE SEVEN SISTERS OF INDIA: AN UNTOUCHED PARADISE IN THE NORTHEAST

While millions flock to landmarks like the Taj Mahal or the grand forts of Rajasthan, the Seven Sisters—Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—offer a completely different travel experience. This region is defined by dense forests, dramatic mountains, vibrant tribal cultures, and a sense of raw, untouched beauty that sets it apart from mainstream tourist destinations.

Nestled between Bangladesh, Bhutan, China (Tibet region), and Myanmar, the Northeast feels like a world of its own. Backpacking through this region introduces travelers to rare wildlife, ancient traditions, and breathtaking landscapes that often remain hidden from the usual travel spotlight.

The ideal time to visit the Seven Sisters is between November and April, when the weather is cool, pleasant, and perfect for exploration. During this period, clear skies and comfortable temperatures make sightseeing and trekking enjoyable. The monsoon season, from June to September, transforms the region into a lush green wonderland, but heavy rainfall can lead to landslides and travel disruptions.

Travelers should be aware of permit requirements before planning their trip. Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram, while foreign tourists must obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for Arunachal Pradesh. These regulations help preserve the cultural and ecological integrity of the region.

The primary gateway to Northeast India is Guwahati, which is well connected by air and rail to major Indian cities. From Guwahati, road travel becomes the backbone of exploration, offering scenic drives through winding mountain roads, lush valleys, and charming villages.
