Town crowned UK’s best for independent shopping

PENZANCE has been crowned the UK's leading destination for independent shopping by website The London Economic.

It evaluated towns using criteria including the quantity of their independent retailers, the diversity of their offerings, from food and fashion to books and crafts, and the degree of grassroots community backing for their shops.

The assessment also factored in the quality of the retail atmosphere, the provision of festivals and markets and how effectively towns withstood the encroachment of national shopping chains.

Clair Hart of The London Economic called Penzance “an absolute gem” which had “making a huge resurgence in recent years.
