SUPREME COURT ISSUES NOTICE TO MANIPUR CHIEF SECRETARY IN CONTEMPT PETITIONOVER 2016 MPSC RECRUITMENT EXAM

The Supreme Court in the case Laishram Tarajeet Singh And Anr.Versus Vineet Joshi And Ors observed and has issued contempt notice to the Chief Secretary of Manipur-Vineet Joshi in a case filed by serving officers of the State, wherein alleging willful disobedience of the Court's order.

The bench comprising of Justice CT Ravikumar and Justice Sanjay Karol in the case observed and has issued notice dispensing with the personal presence of the alleged contemnors (the Joshi and Land Resources Department SecretaryNamoijam Kheda Vrata Singh) for the time being.
The present matter relates to the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive (Main) Examination, 2016 which is conducted by Manipur Public Service Commission, MPSC.
As a result of the same, the petitioners were selected and appointed as officers in the State.
In the present case, the batch of petitioner were filed before the Manipur High Court on October 18, 2019, wherein the allegations are made with regards to the irregularities in the conduct of the exam. The High Court scrapped the exam, nullified the appointments made thereunder and ordered a Central Bureau Investigation, CBI investigation.
The High Court in the case observed and has found the following discrepancies in the examination process to be fatal: The Non-appointment of the Controller of Examination given the essential and the extensive duties devolved upon him.
