MYSTERY OF MISSING DOC SOLVED 12 YEARS AFTER SNOWDON HIKE

Shayne Eves Colaco, 33, had set out to enjoy a day's walking trip in Eryri (Snowdonia) back in 2012, when he disappeared, and was never heard from again.

The health professional had driven from the Stoke-on-Trent area to Ogwen Cotta, where he left his car with an intended walking route towards 3,209ft Pen yr Ole Wen in mind.

Multiple reviews of the disappearance of the man were carried out by Staffordshire Police, but six years after he vanished, officials declared him dead.

The mystery was later resolved when a second tragedy which occurred in the area.

It would lead to the recovery of Shayne’s body 12 years later.

Another rambler, David Brookfield, 65, went missing while walking alone in the Carneddau mountains on January 9, 2024.

David's wife said the last she had heard from her husband was a WhatsApp message that was received when he had reached the summit of Carnedd Llewelyn. After that, she never heard from him again.

A search operation for the man, from Lancashire, ensued, which involved mountain rescuers, a coast guard helicopter, drones and dogs, but his whereabouts could not be identified.

However, four months later, during a routine training exercise of a coast guard helicopter crew, a blue jacket was spotted in the Ogwen Valley.

Investigators discovered the body and possessions of the 65-year-old, who was believed to have fallen and become seriously injured during his walk.
