BOB GELDOF SPEAKS OUT ON ANNIVERSARY OF EPIC MUSIC EVENT

LIVE AID AT 40

T'S 12 noon in London, 7am in Philadelphia, and around the world it’s time for Live Aid.”

DJ Richard Skinner's now-iconic introduction heralded the biggest music event of all time, taking in 16 hours of performances from the planet's biggest stars on two continents.

Live Aid, staged 40 years ago today on July 13, 1985, was seen by nearly two billion people and reportedly raised more than £100 million for famine relief in Africa.

The seed for the huge event, and the record-breaking Band Aid single that came first, was sown when Bob Geldof watched Solihull-born BBC journalist Michael Buerk’s harrowing report from Ethiopia the previous October.
