LINDA HOLDS ON TO NET A FINAL

LINDA Fruhvirtova kept her head to fight back and book her place in the final of the women’s singles at the LTA’s Lexus Birmingham Open.

The Czech youngster was left reeling after Jessika Ponchet stormed the second set 6-0 to tee up a decider.

It was part of a run of nine straight games won by Ponchet, but Fruhvirtova stayed composed to reset and respond from 3-0 down in the third set and clinch victory 6-2 0-6 6-4.

Showing an impressive amount of mental fortitude, the 20-year-old is now one match away from her maiden WTA Challenger Tour title.

"She was on a roll, she was really tough and I was running out of ideas, but I just kept fighting," said Fruhvirtova.

"I kept my focus. Anything can happen, it is always worth fighting to the last point.
