VLADIMIR ROMANOV has claimed he gave Craig Gordon a “blank cheque” to stop him joining Celtic - before flogging him for a British record fee.
The former Hearts owner insists he convinced the Scotland No.1 to stay at Tynecastle in 2006 by letting him name his price, after warning he'd only be second choice at Parkhead.
Romanov's reign was as wild as it was controversial - delivering two Scottish Cups but also financial chaos, a conveyor belt of 14 gaffers in just eight years, and eventual collapse.
