Full of confidence for play-off quest

IN-FORM Stockport County will be heading into a League One play-off campaign this week “full of confidence.”

- SAM BYRNE

That's according to boss Dave Challinor, as The Hatters ended the regular season with a 1-3 come-back win over fellow contenders Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

With a play-off place already secured on the final day, and just a point required to secure third place in the division, The Hatters trailed to Garath McLeary’s first-half opener but roared back after the break with Beno Andrésson, Ollie Norwood and Will Collar sealing a fine three points.

All of that meant Challinor’s men have now set up a tantalising two-legged semi-final against Leyton Orient, who secured sixth place on the day with a 1-4 thrashing of Huddersfield Town.

With County trailing at Adams Park, a fifth-placed finish at one point looked most likely - but Corey Addai saved a second-half penalty from Luke Leahy with the score at 1-0, sparking another memorable comeback.

“It was a great end to the season for us, and a great last half-hour or so of the game. From the moment the Wycombe penalty was saved, the momentum swung and we kicked on from there,” said Challinor.
