Doing coach Mdaka dirty!

National U20 AFCON-winning coach, Raymond Mdaka's salary sparked a huge debate on social media after former SAFA Technical Director, Walter Steenbok, alleged that the former Marumo Gallants coach was earning less than R25 000 a month in a radio interview. This happened shortly after coach Madaka led his team to a history-making achievement of winning the AFCON after 28 years of failed attempts.

Doing coach Mdaka dirty!

The former SAFA TD also alleged that “There’s a lack of respect for black professionals” and that they were not appreciated like their colleagues from other nationalities, which is enough to get South Africans worried. In this day and age, in a democratic country like South Africa, the last thing you expect to hear is the alleged superiority of one race over the other. It should be frowned upon to even suggest that there is even the slightest possibility of people being treated according to their skin colour especially at our football mother body. These are serious allegations, that shouldn't be pushed under the carpet and Steenbok claims to have enough evidence to back his statements. We can’t carry on with life as if nothing has happened when the former TD has painted such a terrible picture of the behind-the-scenes happenings in the office that is responsible for running our football.

SAFA CEO, Lydia Monyepao moved swiftly to deny the claims that the coach was on a salary less than R25K, during the Association’s appearance before the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Sport, when they were quizzed about the well-publicised media reports relating to coach Mdaka’s salary. However, the CEO confirmed that the coach’s salary was below R50 000 per month. Again, for a coach who has done so much for our Beautiful Game, surely it isn’t too much to expect better from SAFA especially after the impeccable AFCON victory and securing the spot to the 24th edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile towards the end of the year.

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
