Afghan victims to get compensation 'in the thousands'

AFGHAN victims of the catastrophic Ministry of Defence data breach can expect to receive compensation “in the thousands”, lawyers claimed last night.

Law firm Leigh Day revealed “dozens” of affected people looking to make a claim are getting in touch every day.

Scores of Afghans who supported British forces had their details exposed in the leak, which only became public knowledge after a superinjunction was lifted on Tuesday.

‘We are being approached each day by dozens’

Humber told the Daily Express that those still in Afghanistan could be due higher compensation.

He said: “As the injunction was only lifted on Tuesday, which is when those affected became aware that their personal data had been disclosed without their knowledge or consent, this claim is still at an early stage.
