'TERRIFIED' SCOTS JEWS CALL FOR EXTRA SAFETY MEASURES

SCOTLAND'S Jewish community is calling for new measures to be brought in by Holyrood to tackle the appalling rise in antisemitism in the country.

The call comes as it was revealed that many Jews are considering leaving Scotland and resettling abroad due to the fears for their safety.

On Sunday, a Muslim father-and-son murdered 15 innocent people while they celebrated the Jewish festival of Chanukah on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. The outrage has only increased concern that similar attacks could be repeated elsewhere, including Scotland.

Figures published earlier this year showed that despite there being only 5,887 Jewish people north of the border-just 0.1% of the populationthey bear the brunt of 4% of racist crimes committed here.

In response to the weekend's atrocity, the chairman of the Jewish Council of Scotland issued a statement yesterday.
