People of all ages honour fallen

Sunday saw the annual remembrance services take place throughout Renfrewshire.

Remembrance Young cadets paid their respects at the cenotaph on Sunday

Despite the poor weather, there was a large turnout across the area.

I attended both the Elderslie and Johnstone events and, as usual, they were very sombre and well respected.

Plenty of young people were present at both events and I think it’s great that they come along to show respect to our service men and women.

Conflict never really ends but, as we move further and further away from both the First and Second world wars, it is important our young people are reminded of the sacrifice so many people made on our behalf. Lest we forget.

As I mentioned earlier, Sunday brought some poor weather and since Sunday it has hardly stopped raining.

At last week’s meeting of the council’s environmental policy board, Paisley councillor Janis McDonald said that flooding should be at the forefront of our minds when deciding many of our policies.
