I have moved house and my electricity costs now seem much more expensive.

A three-rate meter is designed for homes with electric heating
It's still a two-bedroom flat with a prepayment meter for electricity, but I am definitely topping up my meter much more often than before.
My gas supply is with a different supplier but my heating bills seem fine. What might be the problem here?
Well, the first thing we would do is find out if the correct meter reads were given when you moved in, and check that you are not paying off the previous tenant's debt every time you top up the meter.
If there were actual meter reads provided when you moved into the property, this would rule out debt from the previous tenant being taken from the top-ups on the electric meter.
The next thing we would look at is whether your energy statement shows your electric meter is being billed on two or three different rates.
Many electricity bills will include a day/peak rate, a night/off-peak rate and sometimes a comfort/boost rate.
A three-rate meter is designed for homes with electric heating, offering three distinct electricity prices depending on the time-of-day electricity is used, whereas a single-rate meter charges one flat price for all electricity used.
