A Renfrewshire couple who have shed more than 16 stone between them by attending a local weight loss group feel like "they've gained their life back".

- EMYLIE HOWIE

Before covid, Heather and Robert Goodfellow were living the life they loved - enjoying walks, fishing, exercise and, most importantly, keeping up with their grandchildren in all their adventures.

Their weight had fluctuated over the years but they always managed to find their way back to a healthy place.

However, when the covid pandemic arrived, comfort foods crept in, activity slipped away and life became more sedentary.

On top of that, Heather faced a breast cancer diagnosis and Robert's health also began to decline.

Slowly, almost without realising, their balanced lifestyle was replaced by unhealthy habits, and the weight piled on.

By the time things reached their heaviest, Heather was nearly 16 stone and Robert over 23 stone.

The Johnstone pair said they "both found daily life a struggle" and were experiencing "breathlessness, aching joints, low mood and declining mental health".
