We all know and love the unique charms of Ormskirk, but what do city dwellers make of it? Liverpool Echo writer Christopher Megrath gives his verdict on a visit to the town

A QUAINT market town in West Lancashire boasts cosy pubs tucked down back alleyways, international cuisine in the shape of family-run restaurants and a historic chippy dating back more than 12 decades.

Visitors who may be looking to escape for a quiet weekend away can often overlook Ormskirk, but it has everything you could ask for.

With a wealth of pubs, bars, restaurants and a food hall to enjoy, the town has plenty on offer when it comes to welcoming guests.

One of the town's biggest draws is the lively watering holes that see customers return for decades.

The Buck Ith Vine, the oldest pub in Ormskirk, dating back to the 17th century, is a big hit with younger customers despite its age.

Although the venue usually caters to the town's student population, staff member Emma Kavanagh said the pub is always busy.

She previously told the Echo: "We get a lot of really mellowed-out customers. We're on a first name basis with them all which is nice. We don't get much of an older crowd but we're always busy.

"We get such a lively crowd I wouldn't be surprised if we're full. It's always really good vibes and just a nice place to hang out."

The new kid on the block is Cattle Steakhouse, which opened in January. The restaurant is spearheaded by Portuguese father-and-son-team Marcos Leo and Carlos Lobo.
