DISNEY'S REIMAGINING OF CLASSIC FAIRY TALE HAS SPLIT OPINIONS, RACHAEL DAVIS FINDS OUT WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT

-  RACHAEL DAVIS

Will there be happy ending for this new Snow White?

DISNEY'S Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remains one of the most famous and widely beloved children's films.

Its ties to the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, its charming animation, and the fact that it made history as the first hand-drawn animation feature film makes the 1937 classic an ever-green favourite, even as it edges towards its 100th birthday.

Now Snow White - like The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and other Disney hits is being remade as a live-action film.

Rachel Zegler (West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) dons the classic blue and yellow dress to portray Snow White, while Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen, Snow White's stepmother.

As surely everyone knows, the fairy tale's plot sees the wicked queen order Snow White's murder, jealous of her step-daughter's beauty. Upon discovering that she is hiding in a cottage with seven dwarfs, the evil queen poisons her with an apple, causing her to fall into a deep sleep, only to be awakened by true love's first kiss.

imageIn many ways, the remake follows the same story a princess teams up with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen but there will be some key differences for the 2025 version.

"It's no longer 1937," Rachel told Variety in 2022.

"She's not going to be saved by the prince, and she's not going to be dreaming about true love. She's dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be."
