Jail for thugs who carried out appalling attack in city centre

A DAD has been unable to work for almost four years after he was savagely punched and kicked by two thugs on a night out in Nottingham city centre.

Shocking footage played at Nottingham Crown Court showed Deepak Kumar viciously knock one man out with a single punch before he and Shaan Tanner beat up a second man against the window of the former Debenhams store.

In the clip, Tanner kicks the man in the head and face five times before both men run away from the scene in Market Street, but not before Kumar kicks the unconscious man in the head as he runs away towards Old Market Square.

Jailing the pair for a combined total of more than 20 years, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC said: "You, Mr Kumar, are trained in at least one form of martial arts and had the opportunity to defuse any violence, but you did not. (The first victim) was utterly blameless and was hit by you with such force it is a miracle he stayed alive.

"He could easily have suffered a bleed to the brain and you could have been facing a manslaughter charge. (The second victim) was attacked by both of you and he will never be able to have a proper family life again, and all for what?
