A re-tooling of a classic Star Wars shooter heads a clutch of great titles coming this spring

- CHERYL MULLIN

MARCH is finally here, bringing with it the promise of spring.

The light nights will get longer, the days will get warmer and there's even a smattering of new games into the bargain.

A lot of remasters are landing this month, with 1995’s Star Wars: Dark Forces, and 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance both getting fresh releases on a new generation of consoles.

The remake of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is also arriving this month, one for survival horror fans to take note of.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster

(PEGI 12) PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, XBOX X/S, Switch, PC Release: March 3

Dark Forces was one of the most popular Star Wars games of the 90s, and this remaster arrives almost 31 years to the day since its CD-ROM debut.

Set shortly before the events of the original movie trilogy, you battle the Galactic Empire as Rebel mercenary Kyle Katarn. At the time, Dark Forces was a game-changer for first-person shooters because its level designs featured multiple floors, and players could look up and down.

While the graphics have been overhauled, they still look dated when compared to today’s standards, and you'll breeze through this game in a few short hours.

If you're a Star Wars fan who hasn't yet played this game, then now is the perfect time to give it a go.

If you're a first-person shooter fan, then this is an interesting dip back into a game which helped shape the genre into what it is today.
