Hopes for ‘something for the public’ at County Hall

NEW buildings could be constructed next to the County Hall in West Bridgford as hospitality and entertainment firms are said to be interested in moving in.

Hopes for ‘something for the public’ at County Hall

The concrete CLASP (Consortium of Local Authorities Special Programme) building next to County Hall is now being demolished at a cost of £2.5 million.

Sam Smith, Nottinghamshire County Council's leader, says knocking those buildings down will create new opportunities for developers.

He said further details on plans for County Hall's future are set to be laid out in the coming months.

County Hall had been the headquarters of Nottinghamshire County Council since 1946 before the move to the new HQ near Hucknall.

Situated on the banks of the River Trent, County Hall is said to have attracted interest from various developers and Councillor Smith says he thinks a number of businesses will end up being based there, rather than just one.

Business cases are still being drawn up, but opposition parties at the county council are split on what should happen to County Hall.
