ANDY Crosby apologised to Tranmere Rovers fans after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Crewe at Prenton Park and said that his side must improve if they want to continue to move up the table.

- By OWEN LINNETT

The visitors entered halftime with a 2-0 lead thanks to a Max Sandres brace, before Emre Tezgel and Tommi O'Reilly put the game beyond Tranmere's reach.

Rovers were restricted to a slightly fortunate consolation goal after Charlie Whitaker's looping cross was headed into the back of Sam Waller's net by defender James Connolly.

Following the defeat Crosby was frustrated and claimed he didn't foresee his players suffering such a battering off the back of a 3-0 away win at Barrow in midweek.

He said: “We have got to take it on the chin, learn from it and bounce back. To get beat 4-1 at home is obviously extremely disappointing and I apologise to the supporters for that scoreline.

"I think we have been in good for over the last few weeks - picking up points and performances at home and away.

“I didn't see that coming, I have got to be honest. We prepared for the game really well and highlighted the strength of individuals within the opposition. But those players have scored four goals and created assists.
