Owls show fight as record relegation sealed by the Blades
IT WAS supposed to be the worst day in Sheffield Wednesday’s history.
But instead of being relegated in shame, the Owls produced a lionhearted display at Bramall Lane to make their long-suffering fans proud.
Wednesday still suffered the earliest relegation in English football league history, at the home of their bitter rivals.
But they received a standing ovation from the away end after almost recovering from two goals down.
Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen was “disappointed” but his pride was clear. He said:
“After 2-0, nobody gave up... everyone kept on doing [their work] together and they stood up together. It makes me still proud.
It took just 73 seconds for this eventful Steel City derby to burst into life, on a day when Wednesday had to win. Anything else and they would be relegated.
Wednesday youngster Joel Ndala got himself in a tangle by running towards his own corner flag under pressure.
