O’Donoghue: I just cringe at nickname but I know it comes from a good place
WILLIAM O’DONOGHUE finds people calling him the Terminator “cringe” - but he doesn’t take any offence to it.
The inference is that he mows opponents down - in a good way.
That he is relentless. Machine like, in a way. The type of player every manager would love to have and every team requires to be successful.
There are other connotations that could be read into it, but he reckons there is no malice whatsoever in it.
“It’s cringe like, not that they mean any badness by it,” he says.
“I don’t take insult to it. But as a player, whether they’re saying you’re good, bad or indifferent, you’re better off not exposing yourself to that. I don’t pass any heed on it.”
It could have an impact on the field though.
“Yeah, that’s why the refs then start penalising you off the back of it,” says the five-time All-Ireland winner.
