Veteran George McLeod celebrates at Royal Burgess Golf Club with Willie Finlayson, deputy captain of the Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh McLeod served in the 4th Battalion of the KOSB, which landed at Ostend in October 1944 Douglas Baldwin at his care home in Bedford

George McLeod and Douglas Baldwin both turned 100 on Monday, more than 80 years after they fought together with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

While each played their part in the decisive campaign to liberate Northern Europe, the pair served in different battalions and their paths never crossed.
