In the race to become the toughest on immigration, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has crossed a cruel line.
She makes every effort to make the experience of immigration as unpleasant as possible. The whole sorry mess makes me ashamed of being British.
One word that is painfully missing in her statement is crucially, compassion.
