Hastings admits swims provide him comfort after loss

FORMER Scotland rugby international Scott Hastings has revealed he returns every week to swim in the bay where his wife Jenny took her life.

The 60-year-old said it has brought him comfort and allows him to continue her legacy by embracing her love for swimming.

Jenny, 60, went missing in the water at Wardie Bay, Edinburgh, after going for a swim just over a year ago. Her body was found in the area days later.

Scott said: "I miss Jenny every day. She had this amazing connection with people and probably concentrated on other people's health rather than her own mental health.

"But she was fit and active and wanted people to enjoy life."

The couple believed in the healing power of exercise and, during lockdown, they led socially distanced aerobics classes outdoors for their neighbours.

On the day of Jenny's disappearance in September 2024, she had been visited by a mental health practitioner after her depression took a turn for the worse. Scott had arranged to meet her in the afternoon for a swim in the Firth of Forth at her favourite spot in Wardie Bay.
