Unfair dismissal protection to start after six months instead of from day one

KEIR Starmer is facing a backlash after abandoning plans to give workers protections against unfair dismissal from day one of work.

The commitment, which was in Labour's election-winning manifesto, has been ditched as ministers battle to get their flagship Employment Rights Bill through Parliament.

Instead, the right will kick in after six months of service - down from the current two years.
