Over 100 firms join after slump in 2024
The first trade and investment forum between Thailand and Russia has concluded, with more than 100 Russian businesses attending and connecting with Thai companies to explore opportunities for future investment.
The “Russian-Thai Investment Forum 2025”, held from Nov 26-28, drew a host of Thai businessmen with exposure to Russia and those looking to expand into the Russian market in the near future.
Russian participants included AFK Sistema, Alfa Bank, Alterra Group of Companies (a real-estate developer), 1C Company (a leading software firm), Energo (a major energy equipment manufacturer and solutions provider), as well as key players in agro exports. Rosatom, the state-owned nuclear power producer, was also present.
“This initiative was undertaken by the Paetongtarn government to promote greater two-way trade and investment between Thailand and Russia, and I am glad it has started to bear fruit,” said Umesh Pandey, former Thailand Trade Representative under Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s government.
“The aim was to generate more interest among Russian investors to view Thailand as a base to expand operations, not just a tourism destination,” Mr Umesh added.
