Family outraged after tribute to son is targeted

Sick vandals torch memorial bench

An Ayrshire family have been left heartbroken after vandals torched a memorial bench installed in memory of a teenager.

Steve Maw said the episode had “caused our family considerable distress” after his son Daniel’s memorial bench was vandalised last week.

Located in Rozelle Park in Ayr, the bench was installed after Daniel took his own life there aged 19 in November 2013.

The family chose Rozelle as the location for the bench as Daniel enjoyed playing football in the park.

It holds great significance for Daniel's father Steve and mother Lynda who are often seen at the bench tending to the flowers which help brighten up the park.
