Community council plan put to public

South Ayrshire Council has launched a final round of public consultation on a revised scheme governing how community councils are set up and run across the area.

A report to councillors before the festive break said the updated “Scheme for Establishment of Community Councils” has been rewritten following two stages of consultation in 2025 and will be put out again for a final time before a decision is taken early next year.

The consultation will close on January 18, with the completed scheme due to return to full council for approval on February 19.

The scheme outlines how community councils are formed, the conditions they operate under, and the minimum standards needed to be recognised.

It notes concerns raised by both council officers and community councils about document length and the “working practicalities” of some parts of the existing scheme.
