Barbra Streisand’s son, Jason Gould, on growing up in Hollywood and finding his vocation in music

- JOSH OSMAN

“This is about healing myself”

Jason Gould, son of the Hollywood legends Barbra Streisand and Elliott Gould, has finally found his voice. The singer, who released his second studio album, Where We Fall, in November, admits that he was in his forties before he felt he could “give himself permission” to pursue a career in music on his own terms.

Now 59, he has an impressive track record in film and theatre, including having been directed by his mother in the Academy Award-nominated 1991 movie The Prince of Tides. But it was with the release of his debut album, Dangerous Man, in 2017 that he fully took the reins.

Jason released a self-titled EP in 2012 that addressed how the power of music had helped him with healing and sobriety. And his latest release reflects both sides of his approach to music: embracing his family's formidable legacy with fresh takes on the classics, while carving out his own style through pop anthems. Speaking exclusively to HELLO! from his home in Los Angeles, Jason opens up about the cathartic nature of songwriting, his earliest musical memories with his mother and what it was like to work with the late, legendary Quincy Jones.
