McInnes so glad to see Dons end 574-minute wait for goal

Can we still be third best in country? No drought

ABERDEEN.......................1

KILMARNOCK...................0

Relieved boss Derek McInnes hailed Callum Hendry for ending Aberdeen’s six-game goal drought and finally getting them back to winning ways.

The striker – on loan from St Johnstone – came off the bench to end 574 minutes without finding the net as he grabbed the winner against struggling Kilmarnock.

McInnes had also been waiting for a victory for six games. He said:“I’m delighted for Callum because when you arrive somewhere on loan you want to get off the mark.

“Niall McGinn’s delivery was real quality but Callum still had a lot to do.

“He kept his eye on it all the way and it was a great header.

“He’s not the biggest but he has a good leap on him and took his goal very well.

“At this stage of the season and on the back of the run we’ve been on everyone would accept we needed the points.

“I told the players before the game we are the fourth-best team in the country but to get to being third best we have to start winning games.

“We are better than most teams, we are not as bad as people say. But we have to win more games, we have to score more goals.”
