Ring In The New

With great vision and a huge amount of creativity Emma and Enda combined their skills to create a sociable light filled contemporary home, from what was a dark 150-year old farmhouse in County Wicklow, perfect for festive occasions.

Ring In The New

Although Enda’s old family farmhouse homestead was full of character, it was far removed from their dream home. Though filled with happy memories, particularly of Christmas, Enda was keen to give his old home a more contemporary style that would be a practical solution for them and Enda’s elderly father, who was living with them at the time. The old house was dark with a series of small rooms that felt cramped, the whole place along with the interior décor needed modernising. Enda was keen to make it more comfortable, with a better flow between the rooms, and more paired back with plenty of light and space. It also had to be practical for them and his father, who was wheelchair bound. ‘We wanted my father to have his own accessible section of the house and to be able to use the ground floor with ease, so when we took on the task of updating the house this was one of our major concerns.’ Enda, a builder by trade, took his time to consider the best options for the renovations and living in the house gave him the opportunity to plan out the best orientation and how he could incorporate a new structure into the old building to give the couple the space and light they wanted while also catering for the needs of his father.
