Earlier in 2018, Colliers International released a report on Asia’s ageing crisis and the increasing need for senior housing. This sparked the story idea that analyses how design can play a part in mitigating this challenge. On the projects front, two five-star hotels in Shanghai, China have opened recently. Both Bulgari Hotel Shanghai and The Middle House (page 52) have strong ties to Italy, but attempt to introduce, in their own ways, that highly important sense of place. Look out for Seascape Lembongan a villa on Nusa Lembongan in Indonesia that takes its cue from the Mediterranean aesthetic. Also taking inspiration from Europe is Merci Marcel, a restaurant that hopes to bring a slice of France to Singapore, yet offers a strong connection to its locality.
